This afternoon, I participated in my first ever “Career Day” presentation to 5th and 6th grade Intermediate Students at a local Columbus school. People from various professions were called in to give three 30-minute presentations about their chosen field. On the program, I was listed as Cinematographer, right before the Chef, Detective, Fire Fighter, Racecar Driver, Scientist, US Military, and Zoologist. The event was really a lot of fun and the students were surprisingly energetic, enthused, and full of good questions. I got to explain my assistant professor teaching side at CCAD, being a documentarian, how to shoot a short movie or animation, and working in teams. All in all, this was a strangely nostalgic, surreal experience. It really brought me back to when I was 12 years old and having to think about what to possibly do with my life. It felt really good to plant some seeds of inspiration with these young minds and imaginations.
